FALL 2021
New Constellations Magazine Issue 2 Fall 2021 Cover ft. Ann Tai's painting All is Whale

"Spring Words" by Ann Tai

12/19/2021

In this dream of perennial frost
Spring is a tear
trapped behind an eyelid

But against all odds and ends,
you arrived
(Like I’d always known you would)
A gentle ray, a clear light
A silver tear escapes the eye
and tears a sliver of gold
in the dark tapestry of the night sky

I’m spellbound
My heart wrapped around the cartilage
My blood pulses through the nib
Words awaken from their slumber
And stumble into a fever dream

The viscous stream of letters
ebbs across the frozen plains
They map a plane of veins and vines
trailing behind the frantic pen

And when the stream dries,
and even the ink runs light,
I’d still trace poems for you in the snow
Until there’s none left to write

Ann Tai is currently living in Taiwan, a country with beautiful beaches, mountains, and forests that inspire her to write and draw stories. She spends most of her time writing images that she can't put into drawings and sketching words that she can't put into poems. Sometimes she can be found sewing, reading, or baking cookies that are as hard as bricks.
